Founded by Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss, A&M was a stomping ground for a coterie of creative producers, arrangers, songwriters and performers. This edition of "Come To The Sunshine" was culled from a survey of more than 300 of A&M's single releases to present you with a banner show of 50 fine specimens. Phil "Flip" Sloan is without a doubt one of America's most talented, albeit under appreciated songwriters. To commemorate his birthday on September 18th, "Come To The Sunshine" compiled its third salute to the man who's music means so much. Part one of the show includes covers of Sloan's work by The Mama's and Papa's, The Forte Four (produced by Gary Usher), Lloyd Banks (from the UK), The Turtles, Peter & Gordon, The Iguanas, Johnny Tillotson, The Gibsons (another rare UK cover), Bobby Vee, Ann-Margaret, The Searchers and Herman's Hermits. Additionally, the first part of the program features a few of Sloan's solo recordings, as well as a rare single with his songwriting partner Steve Barri under the name of Philip & Stephen. Part two of the broadcast is a triple album spotlight of songs either produced or written by P.F. Sloan for the Canadian only Terry Black album, The Black Plague and Barry McGuire's two Dunhill long-players: Eve Of Destruction and This Precious Time. Hour two brings you an album spotlight on Nino Tempo & April Stevens 1967 "All Strung Out" LP in MONO (a mix unavailable on CD). If you've never heard this wonderful album, which mixes Spectorian Wall Of Sound production with great songs by David Gates, Dalton & Montgomery, Jerry Riopelle and the unmistakable voices of Nino & April, then you are in for a treat.

Much like the lyrically bizarre "All Strung Out" (which employs heroin references as analogy for falling love - quite intense for 1966 - if you don't believe me check out this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ogtsaXmxK0), Andrew spins Nino's classic "Pet Sounds" level masterpiece, "Boys Town (Where My Broken Hearted Buddies Go)" kind of a less oblique "See My Friends." Also, their 1972 MGM release, "Makin' Love To Rainbow Colors," is a poppy, LSD novelty born too late. Not forgetting their visionary bagpipe-folk-rock take on "I Love How You Love Me."
